Granted a new trial following conviction of first degree murder, Carl Torkelson pleaded guilty to a second degree murder charge Monday and was sentenced to a 14 to 25 year term in the state penitentiary at Waupun.
Torkelson was charged with the slaying of Anna Rollophson of Gilman township last January. Her body was found in the yard with her head crushed. It was brought out at the first trial that Miss Rollophson possessed property which the state contended young Torkelson had ambitions to acquire.
At the May term of court at Ellsworth Torkelson was convicted of first degree murder. Judge Thompson granted Torkelson a new trial on the grounds of prejudicial remarks of the district attorney in his final arguments to the jury. Torkelson pleaded guilty.

You'll find the 1959 cars just as costly and full of chromium as this year's models. The new models will bulge wider and extend longer than the '58's.
In the works are bigger windshields, more chrome and mulitcolored anodized aluminum trim. Makes which now have tail fins will have wider and higher ones. There will even be ornaments on front fenders on some models.
Engines and basic mechanical design will reflect encouraging development - a little less horsepower and more economic.
When you hear complaints about the size of the '59 cars, remember , that almost two out of three car buyers choose the bigger and more expensive models over the small economy types.
