Seven youth wrestlers advance to state tourney
The Prescott Youth Wrestling Club had 16 members compete in the Regional Folkstyle State Qualifier tournament, held Saturday, March 8 in River Falls.
The tournament was high caliber wrestling and all members did very well.
The Club advanced the following seven wrestlers to the Kids State Folkstyle Wrestling tournament to be held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison this weekend March 21 and 22: Dillon Kimmen, Troy Urman, Matt Pechacek, Sam Hoopingarner, Payton Brownell, Ty Sanford and Ethan Tulip.
New infield draws rave reviews from Cards

Approximately 100 people attended Saturday's 10th Annual CAB Company banquet at the River Oaks Country Club in Cottage Grove. Former Minnesota Viking and Wisconsin Badger Alumnus Stu Voight was the guest speaker for annual event.
Prescott High School statistician and unofficial Firehall Field grounds crew skipper Ron Stark was awarded the 2008 "Friend of Baseball" Award. The longtime Prescott baseball booster spent countless volunteer hours at the varsity field mowing, raking, and cleaning. It is certainly an award well deserved.Congratulations to Mr. Stark.
There will be some new opponents on the Prescott schedule this year. New Richmond and Baldwin-Woodville are now in the Middle Border Conference after a switch from summer to spring baseball. The Cardinals will also take on perennial power Grantsburg on April at Firehall Field. Prescott rounds out its non-conference schedule with games against River Falls, Pine Island, Red Wing, St. Paul Harding, and Eau Claire Regis.
Plans are in the works to recognize the 20-year anniversary of the 1988 Prescott High School team that advanced to the state tournament-the first Prescott team in history to do so. Players and coaches will be recognized during the Prescott Invitational that will take place Saturday, April 19th.
The Cardinals will be sporting new hats this year. Prescott uniforms have returned to the traditional Cardinal and White.
The Cardinal coaching staff will remain the same this year with Brad Matzek returning for a 13th year, Duane Miller in his fourth year and Assistant Coach Ryan Pinnow returning for a third season.
Prescott baseball alumni playing at the NCAA level include Alex Ross at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Justin Tobias at St. Olaf College, Matt Magnan at St. John's University and Gary Seifert at St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn. Additionally, Ross has been named a captain this year for the Norse.
Middle Border Conference coaches, as the top three teams heading into the 2008 season, have identified Ellsworth, New Richmond, and Prescott. Head Coach Steve Block's Ellsworth charges are ranked #4 according to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Pre-Season Division II poll.

The Prescott Baseball Club will host an all you can eat spaghetti Dinner on Friday, March 28 at the Prescott High School Cafeteria. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. with proceeds used to purchase baseball equipment.
The Prescott CAB Company hopes to install a concrete apron around the backstop at Firehall Field as well as a concrete slab beneath the portable bleachers.
The Cardinal motto for the season is "Prepare, Perform, Persist."
Coaching staff expects competition for varsity spots to be extremely intense. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one Prescott coach believes there are several varsity spots "way up in the air."

Student of the Week
Freshman Steve Urman has been working hard in Family and consumer Education according to his teacher Mary St. John.
"Steve has a great work ethic, looks for extra work, gets along with everyne and is very helpful. He does excellent work academically also," St. John said.
Steve participates in wrestling and baseball and likes watching NASCAR. He is on the "A" honor roll and is in the student council.
He is the son of Mike and Jackie Urman.
