On Monday night of this week a meeting was held at the Lane Hotel in Ellsworth for the purpose of organizing a baseball league consisting of six teams, one from Ellsworth, River Falls, Maiden Rock, Plum City and Prescott.

A skeleton form of rules and regulations was drawn up and the league is now well underway.

A meeting of managers has been arranged to take place in a couple of weeks, at which time a schedule for the season play will be drawn up.

The teams will consist of purely local talent and the competitions should be keen through out the season.

Leo Manion, who so ably managed the local club last year, has kindly consented to act as business manager again this year.

The Prescott Area Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, March 12, for the first regular meeting of the year.

Carroll Lehman, recently selected Administrator of the Year by the Wisconsin School Counselors Association, was guest speaker. He updated the Chamber members on the Prescott Public Schools.

Newly elected President Kris Sampson, of Croix Insurance, conducted the meeting. Many members are concerned about the five proposed plans for usage of the Lower St. Croix River.

These plans directly concern Prescott, not only residents along the river, but the economy of the downtown businesses.

Other new officers for 1998 are: Julie Hoffman, vice president; Sandra Kimmer of Woodmaster Foundations as Secretary, and Tom Ruble, owner of the Virginian Supper Club, as treasurer.
